Guided Reading Freebie!

The creators of Rhyme to Read and Miss Kindergarten are excited to announce that this highly effective reading program is now available in digital download format! 

Rhyme to Read is a great program designed to support beginning readers. This program emphasizes word family chunks which are color-coded to assist children in discriminating different word patterns. The only prerequisites are the recognition of letters and knowledge of letter-sound connections. Rhyme to Read enables children to feel confident as they enter the world of reading!

Rhyme to Read is comprised of 20 short vowel guided reading books that focus on specific word families and common sight words. It is a great, systematic way to teach beginning readers how to read using important chunks in words.

On the left-hand side of the book, students will pre-read the word family words that the will see in the story. The sight word they need to know is also highlighted in the top right corner so they can practice that as well. It is SO good for students to preview words before reading so that they are successful when reading the words in a sentence!

All the books come in both color and gray-scale so you can print what works for you!

Alphabet Zoo {ABC Chart}

My entire K team will be using an "Alphabet Zoo" theme next year.  There is an animal for each letter of the alphabet. Create an action to go with each letter when you introduce it. It gives your students an easy and fun way to remember letter sounds.

Digraph Reader Freebie!

Hi everyone! Kristen here from A Day In First Grade! As many of you know, this year I am teaching kindergarten. We currently are working really hard at locating and reading digraphs in our words. In order to help my young readers read these words, I created a few readers for them.

My students will work on these readers in guided reading. First we will play a game to warm up and then dive in to reading our text. 

First my students will trace the letters in our new sound and underline them in the word. They then will read the word. 

The next page uses the same word in a simple sentence. My students will locate the new sound they are working on and then read the sentence with fluency. 

By working on these skills, my students will have an easier time locating the digraphs in their books that they are reading. It will get them in the habit of really looking at their words and decoding all the sounds that they see.

Letter Names & Sounds Writing Strips!

Hi there FreebieLicious friends!  It's Tara from Little Minds at Work!

I hope all is well...and I certainly hope you are on summer vacation or super close!  I am already thinking about next year. I mean summer can go as slow as possible, I will just be ready for school when it does roll around! :)  If you followed me for long you know that I love my writing strips! {see a snapshot below}.  I love them because they are easy for me to prepare and I can use them over and over again!  They require students to work independently and swiftly. Two skills that Kinders can always improve on!  

I have several writing strips I use during my guided reading groups but I was in need of something for the beginning of Kindergarten!  So, I whipped up these letter names and letter sounds writing strips.  Best of all...they are a fan FREEBIE!  You can download your copy by clicking below!
