If you're looking for an engaging way to practice addition....AND ready to get kids to think critical during math - - these story problem prompts will do just that! You can choose to use them whole-group or with your math intervention groups. It would work to solve the problems as a class, or in the image below you can see the math partners are working on one of the prompts as a "problem of the day." You can also store the prompt cards in a little tub {like seen above} or place them on a metal ring.

ReplyDeleteThis is great. I have just started doing math journals with my first graders. I never thought about having the children explain why they think an answer is correct or incorrect. Thanks for sharing your awesome ideas!
