Digraph Reader Freebie!

Hi everyone! Kristen here from A Day In First Grade! As many of you know, this year I am teaching kindergarten. We currently are working really hard at locating and reading digraphs in our words. In order to help my young readers read these words, I created a few readers for them.

My students will work on these readers in guided reading. First we will play a game to warm up and then dive in to reading our text. 

First my students will trace the letters in our new sound and underline them in the word. They then will read the word. 

The next page uses the same word in a simple sentence. My students will locate the new sound they are working on and then read the sentence with fluency. 

By working on these skills, my students will have an easier time locating the digraphs in their books that they are reading. It will get them in the habit of really looking at their words and decoding all the sounds that they see.

FREE Religious Emergent Readers for Easter

Hello Freebie friends! Tomorrow is the first day of Holy Week and I created two FREE Interactive Sight Word Readers to help Catholic and Christian students learn to read and spell the word "Jesus" during the most blessed week of the church calendar.

If you're not already familiar with my Interactive Sight Word Readers, let me tell you ALL about these great little book. Each six-page booklet uses repetitive text and sentence structures to help children grow in reading confidence. A featured sight word is missing from all pages in the book. Students cut out and unscramble the letters (included in the packet) and glue them onto each page of the book to complete the sentences. If you're short on time, letter stamps can also be used or children can simply write in the missing letters.

Two Versions for Catholic or Protestant Classrooms

Two separate books with a similar theme and the same clip art have been created to meet the needs of Catholic and Christian classroom teachers. Both versions are available for FREE on the Kinder-Craze blog. Stop by and grab the version that best suits your classroom needs.

FREE Lenten Interactive Sight Word Reader

Catholic and Christian teachers: integrate language arts into your Religion instruction with this FREE Interactive Sight Word Reader, "Lent Reminds us of Jesus."

Each page of this booklet uses predictable sentences to name Lenten symbols. The fun twist of the book is that all pages are missing the word "of". Students complete the booklet by cutting out letters to correctly spell "of" and glue them into the book. It is a sweet way to foster faith development while also building reading skills.

Meet Maria {Kinder-Craze}

Are you there, Freebielicious? It's me, Maria!

You probably know me better by my blog... Kinder-Craze. 

I often hop onto Freebielicoius to share free resources from my classroom, but the whirlwind to share fresh ideas leaves little time for sharing anything personal. I thought it was time to help you know the woman behind Kinder-Craze. 

 I have a few obsessions:

With school supplies.

And concerts. Especially, Lenka and Ingrid Michaelson concerts. 

And finding unique ways to decorate my kindergarten classroom.

I have SO many blessings in my life it is impossible to count them all. I teach in a wonderful Catholic school with a sweet little class of kindergarten students. I get to see both of my parents at work every day too. Now I just need to figure out a way for brother, Mark, to work there too. I also have a great boyfriend. He doesn't get much press, but he is often around. Here you can see a photo of his hand while we shared some apple cider this fall. 

And he doesn't mind when I sneak a quick (or slow) peek at my phone while try to juggle blogging, TpT, and Instagram.

Halloween Emergent Reader

Boo!  Halloween is on it's way!  I made a little Halloween Emergent Reader, that uses the sentence stem, "I see a _______."  It's great for teaching the little ones how to follow along, and read a book of their own!

Religious Emergent Reader for Earth Day

Hello Freebie-lovers!

Earth Day was Monday, but my class is continuing our ecological study this week. Since I teach in a Catholic school, I am using this opportunity to share the Creation story with my students and integrate Religion and ELA into my Science block using my newest Interactive Sight Word Reader "God Gave Us the Earth."

Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type

We are learning all about the farm in my Kindergarten class this month!  I made a little freebie to go with the book: Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type.  

In the freebie, the kids can pretend that they are a certain animal group, and writing a letter to Farmer Brown.  There is also an emergent reader, where the kids fill in the blank of what the animals want.  My students had a blast completing these two activities this week!

Ladybug Life Cycle

Is anyone else obsessed with teaching about life cycles for the Spring?  I get so excited to teach about the different life cycles, and my kids REALLY enjoy learning about the different stages of how the animals or insects grow.  Here is a little freebie for you to teach about the ladybug life cycle.
