I love being one of the authors here at Freebielicious. Over the past year I have had a chance to work with an amazing group of ladies that have taught me so much.
I have been teaching special education for over 20 years. I have a wonderful husband and two boys, ages 10 and 13. I'm a hockey mum and both my boys are goalies.
I live in what was the original one room schoolhouse of our small town. I think it's kind of fitting that a teacher lives in an old school house.
I called my blog "A Special Kind of Class" because I truly have a special class. All of my students have physical and/or speech disabilities. Many of my students have poor or no communication skills, fine motor skills or gross motor skills. But they can learn. And they have proved to me over and over again that even though they may have little bodies that don't cooperate, their minds are sharp and they are so eager to learn.
For me, it has been a challenge finding materials that I could adapt for all my students, that didn't require a verbal response, or a printed response. That's why I started creating my own activities. Click on the picture below to grab your free bear counting mat.
