10 More Days Until Lucky the Leprechaun Arrives-Prepare Your Classroom!

St. Patrick's Day
is almost here!  A few years ago, I got tired of all the mischief the leprechauns caused and the traps all over the classroom (not to mention the chaos that was created first thing when students arrived), so I came up with the fictitious character that every child grows to love (although they never actually see him): Lucky the LeprechaunLucky is more about creating magic than mischief!
http://www.mrsminersmonkeybusiness.com/2015/02/magical-st-patricks-day-planned-for-you.html
This is Lucky! Isn't he cute?  He prefers magic to mischief!

I drew up a legend (from a long time ago.....he he) that he comes on St. Patrick's Day eve to classrooms to grab cups (Styrofoam cups) and turns them into hats that fit his head (of course the poem and his plea all makes perfect sense to the children!).
Sounds crazy and silly, but the kids love the legend and love to create a hat that they hope that Lucky will love when he arrives.
So many of my students wanted to draw lucky clovers on their hats, so I came up with a directed drawing and set it up just like the others that my students have been doing all year!
 They loved it and guess what??? They are all drawing shamrocks everywhere AND they were so happy to be able to give Lucky a piece of luck especially from them on his hat....click the picture below to find out more about Lucky's adventures AND grab your freebie, too!

Fun With Peeps!

We had so much fun this week working with Peeps!

One of our activities was exploring with our senses.
{Which you can download in the preview from TpT for free.}

We touched them and listened to them and smelled them AND ate them!
{I tried really hard not to eat them before science time.  LOL!}
Stop by to see all of our Peeps science and writing fun!

(There is also a graphic organizer for free at the bottom of the post!)

Happy Spring Everyone!

FREE Religious Emergent Readers for Easter

Hello Freebie friends! Tomorrow is the first day of Holy Week and I created two FREE Interactive Sight Word Readers to help Catholic and Christian students learn to read and spell the word "Jesus" during the most blessed week of the church calendar.

If you're not already familiar with my Interactive Sight Word Readers, let me tell you ALL about these great little book. Each six-page booklet uses repetitive text and sentence structures to help children grow in reading confidence. A featured sight word is missing from all pages in the book. Students cut out and unscramble the letters (included in the packet) and glue them onto each page of the book to complete the sentences. If you're short on time, letter stamps can also be used or children can simply write in the missing letters.

Two Versions for Catholic or Protestant Classrooms

Two separate books with a similar theme and the same clip art have been created to meet the needs of Catholic and Christian classroom teachers. Both versions are available for FREE on the Kinder-Craze blog. Stop by and grab the version that best suits your classroom needs.

Wishing you a blessed Holy Week and a Happy Easter!

I love incorporating art into learning and that's what Subtraction Art is all about!

Students work to create a scene that they can act out the problems!

And you will super love it because it's FREE and it comes with a full color center you can laminate to use again and again.  Oh - and they go home so families practice again and again with their students!

Love getting those to really experience learning!

Five Little Birdies

My students love little readers like this, they get so excited to show everyone that they can read!
They're even more fun when they're interactive and practice multiple skills!
 This fun little book is based off the poem "Five Little Birdies" and really helps my kiddos focus on subtraction and taking one away.

You can also use it to highlight sight words, number words and rhyming words!
Be sure to come stop by my blog to see what else I have for Spring!
