Welcome Back to School Letters with a Technology Twist

Do you send out Welcome Back to School letters to your students?  This year I added a technology twist to my letters using a QR Code.

I added a QR Code of me reading the letter to my students.
Head on over to my blog to see how to do this, as well as download some free letter templates.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Flip Book

I know it's kind of last minute for a Martin Luther King, Jr. activity, but this would still be perfect for anytime this week.
I am a little bit obsessed with the Flip Books I have been making recently, so I decided to create one about Martin Luther King, Jr.

You will find a two page biography about MLK's life and his accomplishments as well as a page with vocabulary words and comprehension questions.
Click on my blog button below to head on over and download this FREEBIE.

We are Pumpkin Detectives

Today my students became Pumpkin Detectives as we investigated our pumpkins.
We weighed our pumpkins, measured the circumference, measured the height with cubes, and predicted the number of seeds and then found the actual number.  We also wrote adjectives about the inside and the outside of our pumpkins.
We recorded all of this information on our recording sheets.

Parent Teacher Conference Forms

I cannot believe how fast this school year has gone so far.  We started scheduling Parent Teacher Conferences and I wanted to try some Student Self Evaluation this year. I created this FREEBIE packet of must have Parent Teacher Conference forms.

You can find editable versions of forms that are perfect for Parent Teacher conferences.

Open House/Meet the Teacher Night

I cannot believe it's that time of year again!  The summer has gone by soooooo fast.  Monday is our Open House/Meet the Teacher Night and I wanted to share some freebies with you.
I bought some glitter packets at Dollar Tree that were 5 packets for $1, stapled them on, and placed them on the student's desks.

I also have this sign and mints sitting out for the parents.

You can get these two downloads for FREE over at my blog.  While you're there, you may want to download this "Thanks for Popping In" freebie as well.

Restroom Review

How do you handle restroom breaks at your school?  I've always been jealous of teachers with restrooms in their classrooms because truth be told...I do NOT like restroom breaks.  They take up so much time from our day.  So, I decided to do something about it.  I put up a Restroom Review bulletin board in the hall outside of the restroom where we line up.
It's such a great way to have learning resources available to us while we review important classroom skills.
You can head on over to my blog to see some more pictures and to download the headings for free.

Elf Messages

Do you have a classroom elf?  We have our first one this year and my first graders LOVE it!  After writing letters to Santa, our elf was delivered from the North Pole.
I created these Elf Messages to use at the end of the day for my students that you can download for free over at my blog.

Meet Jodi {Fun in First}

Hey! I'm Jodi Southard from the teaching blog, Fun in First.  I'm a first grade teacher in Indiana!
I've taught Art, 3rd grade and 1st grade, but my heart is definitely in 1st!  I cannot believe that this is my 12th year of teaching.  I guess time flies when you're having fun!
I have two daughters (6 & 3) that keep me very, very busy!
I my spare time {what is that again?} I love running and doing Crossfit.  I also enjoy doing projects around the house.  There is always something to do in an older home.  Our huge project last year was to remodel our kitchen!
It was a looonnng process, but totally worth it in the end.
Anyways, I want to share this freebie with you that's perfect for November!
