ABC Picture Cards

Hi everyone!

It's Kristin from A Teeny Tiny Teacher.  This week, we worked on putting words into ABC order.  We used some old picture cards that I had in my classroom, and it made me realize it was time to update them.

Come on over to my blog to see how I taught ABC order and to grab my new picture/word cards - as a freebie!

Reading Fluency Practice

My students are learning how to blend words and starting to read like champs! We are working a lot on word families and finding chunks in words to help us read. I created these fun fluency family mats as a fun way to help my kids read fluently.
We used the large foam dice I found at the Dollar Tree because large dice makes any game fun ;) I introduced this game during guided reading groups. My students took turns rolling the dice, finding the matching number on the paper, and touching each word as they read it. Some of these students, who knew 0 letters and 0 sounds at the beginning of kindergarten were reading like champs!! #happyteacher

Here's a short video of one of my students demonstrating how to play the game. Since we are just working on the "at" family words, we only used this mat. As we learn more word families, we will use more!
You can try out the at family fluency in your classroom too! Grab the free download {here} in my store!

Free Scholastic Book Order Graphics for Parent Communication

My classroom parents always want advice on where they can buy SUPER easy-to-read books for their kindergarten students. They try to shop at their local book store, but you know how hard it can be to find Level A, B or C books at the store. That's why I always encourage classroom parents to purchase books from Scholastic. Over 90% of my own classroom library has been stocked with books from the Book Order. It's a great bargain and the best source of texts for emergent readers.

The problem is, not every book in the Kindergarten flyer is intended for children to read independently. Many of the titles are picture books that are of interest to kindergarten students, but are intended for parents and teachers to read aloud to young children.

Scholastic posts book level information in many of their book descriptions, but the print is tiny and easy for parents to overlook. I find that parents need a little guidance to help them purchase the most effective books for their children's reading level so I created some simple graphics for communicating with parents about the book order.

You can share the image above with parents, or hop over to the Kinder Craze blog and grab two separate images for catalog and online ordering information.

Just save the graphics to your computer and upload them to your class webpage or add them to your printed classroom newsletter. It will make your parents happy (and hopefully bring in a few extra Scholastic bonus points for YOU!)

Five Little Birdies

My students love little readers like this, they get so excited to show everyone that they can read!
They're even more fun when they're interactive and practice multiple skills!
This fun little book is based off the poem "Five Little Birdies" and really helps my kiddos focus on subtraction and taking one away.

You can also use it to highlight sight words, number words and rhyming words!
Be sure to come stop by my blog to see what else I have for Spring!

Bear-y Yummy Freebie

Here is a real quick "bear-y yummy" freebie for you. I love bears and we do a bear unit each January. There's just something about bears that kids love!

This is a Dolch sight word game. It includes both pre-primer and primer words. It's a super simple game. Each player gets a bear character with a cookie jar. The object of the game is to earn cookies for your cookie jar. I have printed cookies for this if you can't use food in the classroom, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE using the tiny mini cookies (even Cookie Crisp cereal works really well)!
Your students can eat the cookies they earn or you can even have them put them in a baggie and take them home for an afternoon snack!

Meet Lidia from Kinder Alphabet

Hi there! I am Lidia from Kinder Alphabet. I have taught Pre-K, Kinder and 2nd grade. But, my favorite has always been Kindergarten. This is me, when I was in Kinder :)

I love to teach reading, themes and finding ways to incorporate activities into our learning centers. Teaching is such a busy job. So, I decided to create a classroom website many years ago, in an effort to keep myself organized. I had no idea how to build a website, but I figured out all that HTML mumbo jumbo. It was a good resource for parents and co-workers as well.

I also designed our School's website. This is the Kid Page by grade levels.

I have been a little obsessed with web design since then. And now, I keep playing around with my own blog layout and even with clip art. This is my blog :)

My blog was on wordpress, but noticed that older posts are not showing up. It seems to be stuck on the homepage and I do not know how to fix that. Soooo, I will be back on blogger. It is so much more user friendly.

I love blogging, but I have had to limit my computer time because I have not been feeling well lately. The good news is that I get to spend more time with my little ones.

This is Daisy. She's not so little anymore, but she's still my baby :) I wish that I had her beautiful voice. She's in choir, plays guitar, and has learned some amazing moves in martial arts. She has a huge heart and ran for Fall Fiesta Queen this summer to raise money for our church.

This is Angel. He's my lion king :) He loves baseball, soccer and hip hop. He's always on the go and loves the outdoors. Today's his birthday. Our schools had a 2 hour delay. Sooo, he decided to have a donut and hot coffee for his birthday breakfast! Lol. I do not like coffee, but he LOVES it!

And my little Isabella.  She's so precious. She loves to sing and dance. I have a video of her singing. I wish that I knew how to upload it to blogger. Maybe some other time :)

I hope that you enjoy today's freebie:)
Here's a sample. Just click on an image to download it.

And here's a clip art freebie too:)

Meet Jeannie from Kindergarten Lifestyle

Hi Freebielicious friends! - I want to introduce myself. I'm Jeannie...

 from

I am a mom of 6!! (Yes I am crazy - thank you for asking). My youngest is 5 and my oldest is 16 and only 1 girl in the whole bunch....btw she is MUCH meaner than the boys....and MUCH more dramatic!

I've taught for 10 years. I've taught kindergarten, first, and second grade. I really love each grade, but kindergarten is truly my passion. I love their innocence and their love for life. Even on my worst days, they brighten my life.

In 2008, I received my M.Ed in Reading. I have certifications as a Reading Specialist and Master Reading Teacher. I also am certified to teach ESL and SPED as well.

I love the teaching blogging community. I know for a fact that I've become a better teacher using ideas from teachers all over the world! I love the 'give and take' sharing that we have!

A few of my favorite things:

Christmas movies - seriously I could watch these 365 days a year. They just make me happy! :)

Diet Coke - and yes my classroom runs on it!....and my house too!

Pinterest - I'm a Pinterest Addict....like seriously! I probably need a 12-step program. If anyone has a pin for that let me know. :)

Come check out my boards - my most valuable asset!

Hawaii! - I am determined to make it there someday... {sigh} Is there any person in the world who doesn't want to visit there?

I made these Letter Box sheets for my class a few days ago. I thought maybe you could use them too. Click below to grab them!

Hope you enjoy!
